| About Us
Bridge House, Dawlish, South Devon is situated just over a mile from the sea front and a short walk from the shops of this
small and pleasant resort. The distinctive white house which dates back to 1793, enjoys a quiet and peaceful setting. It has
the added attraction of a trout stream running through its grounds into Dawlish Water, with its famous black swans.
The panelled main lounge, which has a small bar, opens directly onto the garden. The centre has recently seen the
addition of a 15 space car park within the grounds.
If you wish to sit in the sun without going outside then the
sun lounge on the first floor of the Haigh Wing is the place to be. In addition there is a billiard room and a quiet lounge
which enjoys views of the gardens and stream. Meals are served in the sunny, recently refurbished dining room on the ground
floor.
Bridge House has a fascinating history. It is said that
Dickens wrote part of Nicholas Nickleby while staying there and Edward VII visited with his mistress Lily Langtry. In fact
her ghost is reputed to have been seen on the upper floors (by men only!).
