The Railway Benefit Fund is a charity funded by railway people. With a history stretching back to 1858, the charity, like railways, has moved with the times. Today it reflects the needs and concerns of those working in this rapidly changing industry, offering wide-ranging assistance to active and retired railway people and their dependents.
Since it was formed in 1948, the British Transport Pensioners’ Federation has secured many financial benefits for railway pensioners and their dependants, as well as improvements to travel facilities for retired staff. We have representatives on the Board of Trustees and the Pensioners’ Committees of the Pensions Section ‘Closed Fund’ and the BR Superannuation Fund. We have also secured representation on the Pensioners' Committees of many of the new Funds applicable to the privatised railway.
